The Society of Professional Journalists is hosting a workshop in Los Angeles on June 28, 2008 that you and your staff might be interested in attending. The workshop’s main aim is blogging, which will include discussion of journalism ethics, basics of media law, access to public record, responsible reporting practices and effective use of technology. The speakers discussing these topics include David Cullier, University of Arizona; Meg Tebo, Columbia College Chicago; Gary Williams, Loyala Law School and Leonard Witt, an award-winning practicing journalist.

Similar workshops we’ve hosted in Greensboro, North Carolina and Chicago, Illinois have been a great success! You can read about what past attendees have said about the event here: http://www.chicagotribune.com/technology/columnists/chi-citizenjournalism-hypertext-may21,0,6692038.column, and here: http://wantsugar.blogspot.com/2008/05/calling-all-citizen-journalists.html

I hope we’ve caught your interest in this workshop for your staff. To access the registration page and more details about the workshop, please visit the page on our Web site: http://spj.org/cja.asp#eventloc3

Please feel free to contact me by responding to this e-mail or calling (317) 927-8000 if you have any questions about the event. We look forward to seeing you and your staff there!

Cricket Communications and Rebuilding Together Team Up To Revitalize San Diego Special Needs Center

    Hello Pat,

I wanted to make you aware that Saturday, October 17th an important project will be taking place at the Arc of San Diego Vocational Center.

A team of more than 200 Cricket Communications employees, business partners and active duty military volunteers will help the Arc of San Diego Vocational Center with much needed interior and exterior repairs.

Volunteers will help create a water-wise garden for the center’s courtyard, paint the center’s interior and exterior, and install new appliances in the training kitchen, among other repairs. State Assembly member Lori Saldaña and City Councilwoman Donna Frye will also be on hand to participate in the rebuilding activities. Entertainment will be provided by the Monarch School Steel Drum Band.

    WHEN: Saturday, October 17
    8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

    WHERE: 9575 Aero Dr.
    San Diego, CA 92123

Cricket and its employees are working with Rebuilding Together, the leading national nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership, and provide repairs to 43 homes in 37 cities this year.

If you have some time, we welcome you to stop by the block party and see the project in-action. If you’re not able to attend, we will gladly provide photo/video content from the project site upon request.

Please let me know if you have any questions or need anything additional.

    Best,
